The most edible of our native figs. A small, hardy tree that responds well to pruning. Leaves have a sandpaper like texture. Produces abundant black fruit off the stems, which attract many varieties of fruit eating birds.

Fast growing, massive ever-green tree. Edible maroon-red fruit attracts birds and other wildlife when ripe. Popular in pots and containers. Protect, water and feed in first year. Underside of leaves are gold.

A well known specimen of this tree is the Curtain Fig Tree on the Atherton Tableland, near Cairns. Useful timber, white fruit with pinkish spots are edible. Water and feed in first years for faster growth.

An attractive and fast growing tree with deep red new growth. Cream flowers form from February to August followed by woody seed capsules. Easily worked wood is used for cabinet and joinery work as well as carving.

A popular north Queensland visitor used as an ornamental tree in streets, parks and gardens. Also prized for its timber, which is similar to Mahogany and is used in the making of guitars. Does best east of the ranges, water and feed in first years for faster growth.

Small hardy evergreen shade tree which grows of the inland rainforest plant with small interesting flowers. Fruit attracts king parrots, brown cuckoo-doves, lewin's honeyeaters and scrub turkeys.

Common names are Mainenhair tree or Ginkgo. Small, deciduous, hardy, slow growing ancient plant thought to be extinct but was rediscovered in Chinese monasteries. Has been used in traditional Chinese medicine since at least the 11th century. Spectacular gold foliage in autumn.

Also known as Pink Fruited Lime Berry, a small native tree which produces small white, fragrant flowers which are followed by orange-pink fruit, which are juicy and sweet, with a flavour similar to honey. Foliage is glossy and aromatic. A host plant to the swallow tailed butterfly.
